BROUGHTON W.I. CHOIRYvonne French has created and embroidered two music stand covers for use by our choir. They saw their first outing when the choir were invited to sing the SFWI Centenary Anthem ‘The Smallest Seed’ (composed and written by Martin and Shan Jones), at the SFWI Annual Council Meeting in October 2019. Our WI is so lucky to have such talented people. Thank you Yvonne for all your hard work in creating these. Our choir is growing in numbers and now has over 20 members.
💜💛💚 How smart and professional our choir look!

What a really wonderful Christmas lunch was enjoyed by 40 Broughton WI
Craft Club members and friends held at Sugnall Hall today. Such a grand setting in the oak panelled Games Room with a roaring log fire and the food created by Mary Moss and her team was really delicious. We were the first group ever to be invited to enjoy Christmas lunch in the Hall by Mary and her team, - who usually cater at Sugnall Walled Garden tea rooms. We really enjoyed it and will hopefully have the opportunity to return in December 2020. To round off the event, we sang Christmas carols accompanied by Sheila on the grand piano. Thank you to Margy Horton for organising the event, ... it was so lovely to see so many members there. A few hours now to digest the Christmas pud etc before we all re-gather at the Broughton Parish Room for our December meeting. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2020. “So let’s be thankful for friends old and new when we are eating our cake and enjoying a brew; and celebrate just what a great group we are with friendship like ours, we will always go far!” Invite to the launch of Perry's 'Field to Fork Cookery School
Anne Clews and Ros represented the WI locally at the official business launch of Perry’s Field to Fork Cookery School in Eccleshall on 21st November. We were treated to a glass of bubbly and Mediterranean canapés, Cookery demonstrations and BBQ food by Debbie and Steve Hill. Oooh! ... the pheasant on pitta was so delicious!
Many WI meetings have benefitted in the past from Steve’s sausage and pie-making demos, but we can now experience a whole range of culinary courses in the beautiful new Cookery School, ... right on our doorstep. Broughton WI members will definitely welcome such a fabulous resouce and look forward to a visit in 2020. Our Poppy wreath was laid at the memorial next
to St Paul’s Church, Croxton during the remembrance service at 10.45am on Sunday 10th November on behalf of Broughton WI Trophy winners at the SFWI Annual Council Meeting 17.10.19
October Meeting: Marquetry with Quentin Smith
October 10th Meeting: After a WI Choir rehearsal with Martin, (in readiness for our performance of ‘The Smallest Seed’ at the SFWI Annual Council Meeting), Diane welcomed everyone, a new member and a visitor from Lincolnshire and then after a short business session, we had a very interesting talk about Marquetry by Quentin Smith. Delicious refreshments by Lesley, Diane, Margy and Pam and the evening concluded with a singalong to Quentin on his guitar.
Enjoying a workshop at 'Bread in Common'
Inspired by the presentation at our August meeting, Vicki and Anne attended a workshop at 'Bread in Common' on a very warm 21st September. They thorougly enjoyed the day and baked some wonderful bread (5 different types) including ciabatta.
